To celebrate National Tree Week, we went on a tree walk. We conducted a survey of the trees in the school woodland.We found that 4 out of 10 trees are Oak.This makes Oak the most popular tree in the woodland. We identified trees by examining the shape of their leaves and their fruit.
The Hawthorn
The Hawthorn was the native tree of the year this year.It is sometimes known as the May bush because it blooms in May. It has red berries in Autumn. In olden times , people would say a prayer at a Hawthorn tree and tie a rag to it. We also made a 'raggy bush' .We tied a ribbon to the tree and said a prayer.
