Gowran Athletics Club have provided us with a training plan to complete the Stook Race in November!
5k Fit Stook Training

Skip N Rope!
We were so delighted to have Skip N Rope visit our school and deliver a skipping workshop. All classes were taught different skipping techniques. At the end of the day we had a skipping showcase and lots of children got to display their talents!
Dancing with Evelyn!
Every Friday all classes learn new Irish dancing routines with Evelyn! We love it!
Gowran NS has applied for the GAA 5 Star Centre of Excellence! Along with training and competing in many different sports throughout the year, we look forward to the exciting new activities that this programme will bring. All teachers will undergo training in this and every single child in our school will have an opportunity to participate in a diverse range of GAA activities such as Have a Ball, Fun & Run, Camán & Play, Catch & Kick, Skill Challenges, and Go Games. Bring it on!
Leinster rugby coaching sixth class!
Gowran Athletics Club
Here in Gowran N.S we are extremely lucky to have a local athletics club that are willing to work closely with our school to promote athletics and develop the fundamental skills needed by all pupils. For the past few years the club have developed a training programme for the children to train for their Stook 10 mile run and 5km fun run. All children participate in running activities daily in school for 4-6 weeks leading up to the big day.
The club are also very generous with their time. They have visited the school for the past few years, taking classes out for 30-60 mins depending on age. They teach the children hurdling skills, relay change-overs, turbo javelin, walking and running skills. The children love these days and we hope to continue working with them in the future.

KRSP have worked with us this year lending us their strider bikes. Strider or balance bikes help children to develop confidence and balance while feeling in control of their speed. The use of strider bikes provide many important physical, developmental and emotional benefits for children learning to ride. Junior and senior infants will have access to the bikes and helmets for nearly 6 weeks. They are loving using them during their PE classes, some of them have been overheard saying ' It was the best day in school, we got to ride bikes!'. Thanks KRSP.
KRSP also have a programme called Bainisteoir Beag. We are currently on a waiting list to partake in this programme. The aim of this programme is to train fifth and sixth class students as playground leaders. At break times they organise lots of fun activities for the younger classes in the school.
