Under 10s were delighted to get experience of their first gala, with Mia Kennedy, Lauren Pitt, Emma O''Connor, Peter Grimley, Adam Lanigan and Bobby Coomey all demonstrating great skill in the water. A gold, three bronze and a 4th place wins ensured that Gowran NS had much to celebrate.
Under 11's all demonstrated excellent swimming technique with siblings of some of the U9s and 10s getting their turn to exercise their competitve streak! Jane O'Connor, Heidi Ryan and Emily O'Keeffe were strong in their races, with MJ Carroll and David Carroll dominating in their finals. A medals haul of three golds and a silver medal in this age group gave us much to smile about!!
Under 12s provided us with great excitement with Lily Brennan, Derbhla Convery, Saidhbh Farrell, Evan Ryan, Darragh Carroll and David Timmons all competiting in their respective strokes. Three golds and a silver medal saw many spectators take note of the strength of the Gowran Squad.
Under 13s was the most challenging category, with Orlaith Carroll, Anna Kelsey, Julie Scriven, Conor Carroll, Sam McAviney and Ross Murray participating in each U13 race. Not deterred, the boys all won gold and two further golds from the girls. It gave us much confidence going into the relay races!
The girls' relay team swam 4 x 25m frontcrawl. Abagail Hunt, Lauren Pitt, Jane O'Çonnor, Anna Kelsey and Orlaith Carroll gave 110% effort. The boys' relay team swam 4 x 25m frontcrawl also. Ted Kelsey, Bobby Coomey, David Carroll, Evan Ryan and Conor Carroll swam superbly. Each race was down to the wire, with the girls demonstrating great determination to finish second, and the boys battling it out to win the gold medal!
With points for each medal won (Gold-3, Silver-2 and Bronze-1; Double each for the relay), Gowran National School impressively had the most points to win the Boys' and Girls' best overall team awards.
