Two of our fifth class pupil are participating in the discipline of karate. This is the Japanese system of unarmed combat using blows with the feet, hands, elbows, and legs.   On January 9th, 2014, the pupils from 6th class in Gowran NS  participated for the first time in the Primary Science Fair, which takes place as part of the Young Scientist Exhibition in the RDS. They were busy last term investigating their submission – “Can we drop an egg from a height and not let it break?” – and then displayed their results on their stand, ably demonstrating their theories to the judges, media and spectators who attended.The children were presented with a lovely glass trophy. A wonderful day was had by all and we are very proud of their achievements. Many thanks to their teachers, Ms.Natasha Phelan and Ms. Niamh O' Connell for their time and commitment and to our caretaker Jim for his help with the testing. "Beautifully presented......  provoked a great understanding of the concepts of gravity, mass etc..............a real sense of developing and improving the invention in the context of ideas relating to shock absorption, size etc.......... really original ideas from the students."

Congratulations to our fifth class pupil who had her hard work acknowledged and talents recognised at a recent dancing feis. Well done!

Our fifth class pupil impressed us with his outstanding achievements in a recent competition in the famous showjumping arena, Millstreet, Co. Cork. His knowledge and skills are to be commended! Congratulations and continued success in the future! We know there is a champion in the making! Well done!

We have in our company, an aspiring golfer! As our photos demonstrate, this fifth class pupil has the stance, strength and skill to become a professional golfer who will be world renowned like many an irish golfer before him! Best of luck!!!

Our latest success story comes from our fifth class pupil, who won the U12 Leinster Final in the 50kg boxing fight. Congratulations and best of luck in the All-Irelands!

Our fifth and sixth class pupils participated in the first round of Ireland's 'Spelling Bee', with three individual class winners:  
Saoirse Smith (5th), Hannah Brennan (6th) and Freagh Kelly (5th/6th). These  finalists battled it out, with Hannah Brennan becoming the overall winner. She will represent our school in the county finals later in the year.

We are ever so proud of our fifth class pupil who ran in the All-Ireland Cross Country Championships in Adamstown, Co. Wexford.

Against tough opposition she placed an impressive sixth. She is a member of Thomastown A.C., and one to watch for the future!
