Once again, the children in Gowran NS enjoyed many varied activities during Book Week. Author Paula Leyden read from her new book " The Sleeping Baobab Tree" for 4th class and 6th class. Paula had visited last year also to read from her first novel, "The Butterfly Heart." We are very grateful to her for giving so generously of her time. The children from Ms. Tighe's class and Ms. O' Connells' class were treated to an excerpt from "The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas", read by local actor Brendan Corcoran. First and Second classes visited Dubray Bookshop to hear all about a new book, "The Spirit of Titanic" and then on to Kilkenny City Library where they participated in a book quiz and learned how the library works! The pupils from 3rd and 4th also visited Dubray Bookshop to hear author Brendan O' Brien, followed by a visit to Kilkenny Castle. The younger classes had storytime with some of our retired staff and were also the audience for poems and fairytales written by the budding authors of the senior classes. At the end of the week everyone visited Khan's Book Fair in the school hall to choose some lovely books to read at home. See the classes section for some photos of our very busy week.
