This year's pupils of Gowran National School are taking on the 100 Word Challenge. This is a challenge set up by a teacher in the UK and has inspired many children across the globe to write!
As the name of the challenge suggests, pupils are provided with a prompt on which to focus their writing, with an approximate limited of one hundred words. (Only the teacher (me!) moderates this so it is not a strict rule that is enforced!). Sometimes, editing your work to delete the less important information is a great way to improve the overall standard of writing.
To see this week's prompt, go to schoolzone and hover over it until the dropdown menu appears, and then click the fifth one '100 Word Challenge'.
It is not very strict so don't worry too much if this is your first time to do it! A new prompt comes each Sunday evening. If you wish to submit a story, email MsTighe17@gmail.com. The stories will not be edited but will be read before they are posted.
We would also encourage you to read the 100 word stories and submit a positive comment to provide feedback! You can comment by clicking under a story in this blog.
All comments will be approved by the administrator of this blog before being published.

Congratulations to Ellie Carter from Fourth Class who has qualified for the finals of the Bebras Challenge. The Bebras Computational Challenge introduces computational thinking to students by allowing them to solve computational problems online. 7,000 students took part in the initial challenge in November and 200 have qualified for the national final in Maynooth in March. We wish Ellie the best of luck as she goes forward to represent our school.
