We are extremely grateful to Alan Cleere who presented Clare Hanrick with €470, proceeds of a recent fundraiser called "Find the Joker", held in his pub in aid of school funds.
This year's Kilkenny County Schools swimming gala took place in The Watershed on Tuesday, 18th
of June. We had boys and girls from second class and upwards participating in front crawl, backstroke and breaststroke. Our swimmers were fiercely competitive in their heats and each swimmer gave their race their all! Some of our swimmers qualified for their respective finals and gave us plenty to cheer about and even pipped other competitors for a podium finish! Well done to all the pupils who represented Gowran National School in the gala- you did us proud!
As part of our Seachtain na Gaeilge activities, the pupils in 3rd class recently participated in the Scríobh Leabhar project run by the Kilkenny Education Centre. They worked in groups, writing and illustrating stories “as gaeilge”. Each child received a certificate and a lovely pencil case for taking part and a lucky group of pupils from the class were chosen to represent their class at the awards ceremony on March 12th in the Watershed, along with their teacher Ms. Reddy.
Congratulations to the 62 pupils who recently received their Confirmation from Bishop Dermot Farrell, during a lovely ceremony in our parish church. A sincere thank you to the twelve parents who volunteered to be leaders of the, "You shall be my Witness”, parish preparation programme, to our wonderful choir led by Paul, Olive and Claire and to the three class teachers, Ms. O' Keeffe, Ms. Tighe and Mr. O' Gorman, who all contributed to what we hope was a memorable day for everyone.
It is with great heart and enthusiasm that we embark on the renewal process for our Active Flag. Here at Gowran N.S, we focus on the importance of healthy minds and healthy bodies. There are so many benefits that come with being active. The obvious health benefits are increased self-esteem, greater concentration levels, along with the development of teamwork skills!
Our Active flag co-ordinators Ms. Nolan and Ms. O' Keeffe along with the Active Flag Committee have a wonderful programme of events planned out for the coming year.
We kicked off a few weeks back with our "Active Lines" and "Walk On Wednesday". Our Active Lines is where we do different stretching and exercises in our class lines at the end of lunch time to get our extra bit of exercise in. Each class will also go walking up around the village, all around the walking track and back to the school during lunch time, closely supervised by two teachers. It's great to get out and enjoy a brisk walk with our friends! We are also engaging in "10 @ 10" daily where all classes do ten minutes of exercise or "Brain Breaks" either at 10 o' clock or 2 o' clock. Stay tuned for all the pictures and activities that will be happening in our school!
