Gowran NS Reads - How many minutes will you squeeze in to read?
Congratulations to all the winners in the PA Christmas Raffle and a huge thank you to all those who organised the raffle, donated prizes or bought tickets. We really appreciate your support.
All here at Gowran NS wish past pupil, Steffi Fitzgerald and the Kilkenny Senior Camogie Team the best of luck in the All Ireland final 2020.
This year, Bookville, the annual Kilkenny festival of books for families and children, compiled a free book for all children in the county.
Based on some of the best contemporary children’s authors and illustrators, Bookville in a book is a feast for the eyes and is packed with fun and exciting interactive activities to suit children from age 5 to 12 years.
Bookville is funded by the Kilkenny County Council Library Service and the Kilkenny County Council Arts Office, supported by the Creative Ireland Programme.
As you can see from the photographs below, our pupils in Gowran N.S. were delighted to receive their copy.
There was great excitement on Friday, October 9th, as we celebrated Kilkenny Day, which was organised by Kilkenny County Council. Ninety two children and three teachers cycled to school on a lovely fine morning. Many arrived in convoy after meeting up along the way and several were accompanied by parents on bicycles or following in cars. The black and amber was on display as the pupils proudly supported their county. The loudest cheer of the morning was reserved for Mr. O' Gorman, Mr. Scully and Mr. Mulally, who made a grand entrance together, though we don't think Sam Bennett, winner of the Tour de France Green Jersey, has anything to worry about, just yet!
We recently said "Goodbye" to Mrs. Joan Kennedy, an occasion tinged with more than a little sadness, after her eighteen years as a Learning Support teacher in Gowran N.S. Mrs. Kennedy was much loved by all her pupils down through the years for her kindness , enthusiasm and commitment and will be sorely missed by children and colleagues alike. She was truly a very special "Special Education Teacher". We wish her a long and happy retirement with her husband and family.
