5th and 6th Class have recently been learning about The Renaissance. The Renaissance is a period from the 14th to the 17th century, considered the bridge between the Middle Ages and Modern History. It started as a cultural movement in Italy in the Late Medieval period and later spread to the rest of Europe. We explored many aspects of the Renaissance such as exploration, art and inventions.
We focused in particular on Leonardo Da Vinci. One of da Vinci’s most famous inventions, the flying machine (also known as the "ornithopter") ideally displays his powers of observation and imagination, as well as his enthusiasm for the potential of flight. We worked in groups with limited materials in order to try and create a flying machine that would glide through the air.

We looked at the Mona Lisa which is is a half-length portrait painting by Leonardo da Vinci that has been described as "the best known, the most visited, the most written about, the most sung about, the most parodied work of art in the world."
We decided to take different approach to our Mona Lisa Art by creating a modern spin on the world famous painting. Here are some of our modern day Mona Lisa's which reflect our own hobbies and interests.
