Persephone! Come Back!

26/6/2014

Persephone was the daughter of the Greek Goddess, Demeter. Demeter was Mother Nature, responsible for the growing of plants, the blossoming of fruit and the ripening of flowers. Fifth class undertook the production of 'Persephone', a play based on the Greek Myth about the occurrence of the seasons. Persephone was captured by the God of the Underworld, Pluto. He tried to make Persephone his queen. But all she wanted was to return to earth, to see the sun, sky, birds and stars. Whilst imprisoned in the underworld, Persephone grew to become fond of Pluto. However, her mother Demeter never gave up trying to find her. When she learnt from Apollo, the God of the Sun, what had happened, she appealed to Zeus, King of the Gods for help.
All classes came to see our play. We had great fun dressing up in our Grecian costumes (i.e. bedsheets!) and robes! We also had fun acting as farmers, a miller, Cerberus (a three headed dog) Hecate (an ancient moaning goddess!) and Hera (Zeus' long suffering wife). We hope it was enjoyed by all and look forward to our next experience on the stage!!
