Hedgerow Nature trail

3/10/2013

One   Friday, 6th class went on a nature walk with Ms Phelan and Bridget. It was a
lovely cool day. We walked through the village, passed Rock Field to Clover
Lane. The reason why we did this is that we were studying hedgerows. We took
clipboards and work sheets with us. The work sheets had pictures of leafs and if
we saw them we would tick them off. We all had lots of fun trying to find all
the leaves that we learned about. Some of the leaves that we found were Alder,
Ash, Hazel and lots more. When we found all the leaves we returned back to the
school. We loved learning about hedgerows.

Gowran A-Z poem

5/6/2013

A brilliant place so come on down,
Better than your local town.
Cleere’s is the place to drink,
Dinner is served at Gowran Park.
Everyone is friends in the village,
For a lovely day out, go to the races.
Glasraì and Goodies for a tasty treat,
Houses with lovely people to meet,
In the Panto you dance and sing,
Just go to Regan’s and get served by Ling
Ling.
Kilkenny is Gowran’s home,
Look around in the Reptile Village,
Many things to see.
Nursing home for who are old,
Or a crèche for who are bold.
People here are really great,
Quit work and get over here.
Rattle snakes in the Reptile village!!!
So get on down to Gowran town.
Take a tour in Gowran village,
Up in the school where children play
Vinegar and salt in Rico’s, eat them quick before
they get cold.
Wrap your arms around Carey’s cars.
X this place to go.
Your tired now, cannot cook, takeaway and Chinese, oh
what luck!
Zoom right down to Gowran
  village!

6th Class Talent

2/4/2013

Picture
The day of our Easter Holidays, 6th Class held a talent show in the school hall.  Here they showcased a variety of talent in singing, dancing and playing instruments. They had an emcee to host the event and stage directors to control sound and lighting (thanks Brian MacCormack and Meighean Furlong). The judging panel, Mrs Hanrick and Mrs Kennedy, had a hard time deciding on winners as there was a multitude of talent there!
In the end, prizes went to the following:
- our very own songwriters and singers Freagh Kelly, Mary and Sarah Gittens
- guitar player Meighean Furlong
- soloist singer Daniel Nevin
Congratulations and a Big Well Done to all!

Egg Art

29/3/2013

•Psanky are decorated Easter eggs from the Ukraine in Eastern Europe.
•Traditional psanky carry mythical and Christian symbols.
The children painted their own duck egg with symbols that were symbolic to them.

Project on Climatic Regions of the world.

4/3/2013

We learned loads of new things about the plants, animals and weather in different parts of the world. Some of us did our projects alone while others worked in groups. We presented the final project to the whole class and received a grade for information found, how we presented the project to the class and how it looked.
