5th Class Local History Tour 2017
HISTORY TOUR REPORT
Recently 5th class went on a History tour to Kilkenny City.
We started our tour at the Medieval Mile Museum where we saw some burial tombs, effigies and learned lots about the history of Kilkenny through members of families such as the Rothe and Shee families.
After the Medieval Mile Museum we went to the Castle Park for lunch and where we had a huge game of ‘build up’ tag!
Following lunch we walked the medieval mile to St. Canice’s Cathedral where our tour guide there, James taught us lots of interesting facts about the cathedral and about historic figures such as Bishop Ledrede. Ledrede remains to be Kilkenny’s longest serving bishop and during his time as Bishop of Ossory was very interested in witchcraft and wanted to put a stop to it. It was Ledrede who ordered that Alice Kytler be burned at the stake, but instead her assistant Petronella was.
Overall it was a really fun and interesting day.

Fís Showcase 2017
'STRANDED'
5th class recently finished the filming of our 'latest' blockbuster movie, 'Stranded'. On Thursday 25th May we went to
The Set Theatre in Kilkenny to watch films created and produced by other schools as well as our own . There were six other schools there in total and all the films were brilliant.
At the end of the showcase a special guest from Young Irish Film Makers presented each school with an award. We got a clapper board and and an 'Oscar' statue. We got an award for the best use of Green Screen.
On the way out each child got a goodie bag for all our hard work. We really enjoyed making the film, it really brought our class together and would love to do something like it again.
