Urlingford N.S 2-9
Gowran N.S 1-9
May 23rd 2017
Commiserations to our Camogie team who were narrowly beaten by Urlingford after extra time in the Roinn B semi-final. They battled hard until the bitter end but unfortunately lost out by a single goal which was blasted to the net by the Urlingford girls in the dying minutes of extra time. We are very proud of all the girls and the character they showed today.

Semi-Final
Gowran Vs Urlingford
We worked and trained so hard for the big day and we were so excited. We had lots of energy for the day.
We were to play Urlingford N.S. It was 25 minutes a side. After the first half it was a draw game.
Then we got back onto the field and gave it our all. Again, after the whole second half it was a draw, so it went on to extra time.
The extra time was 5 minutes a side. Even after the first 5 minutes, it was still a draw. It was so nail-biting. All the supporters on the sideline were shouting on the team.
For the second 5 minutes of extra time, it was still a draw, but in the last two minutes Urlingford scored 2 points and a goal. Everyone was cheering even louder. We scored 2 points in reply but sadly couldn’t get the goal.
It was such a titanic battle and it was every emotional for us all. We hope we can do even better next year. Well done to all the girls on the team!

Camogie Mini-Leagues 2017
The camogie mini-leagues recently started for the girls.
When the first match was played Alicia’s team beat Ella’s team and in the second game Ella’s team beat Ciara Bryan’s team.
Just yesterday, Alicia’s team beat Ciara Jelley’s team by a couple of goals.
With Alicia’s team having two strong wins and Ella’s team with one strong win, they are looking to be favourites with only a few games left before the semi- finals.
Because there are only 4 teams in the mini-league, each team will play in the semi-finals.
We all can’t wait to see who will get to the final.
With teams still having to play their last match, it’s still anyone’s to win. All the teams are so even so it’s all to play for.
If you scroll down you can take a look at this year's mini league teams.

Mini League Final 2016
The Mini League Final of 2016 took place on Friday the 24th of June.
The two teams competing were Peig Keating and Emma Farrell.
After challenging semi-finals for both teams and the teams being fairly even, this final was going to be interesting.
The ball was thrown in and the game was in full flow. The ball was been passed around Peig’s team with Peig herself cracking it into the back of the net once she got it. Emma’s team were trying to get into it but Ella Middleton flashed a second goal for Peig’s team.
Emma’s team were playing well and trying hard but weren’t getting the scores.
By half time Peig’s team were up by 6 goals. Could Emma’s team change it around in the second half?
When the second half got under way Peig’s team got another good start by scoring another goal. Out of nowhere though, Emma’s team whacked in 2 goals! They were back in it.
Peig’s team came back scoring another few goals and Ella Middleton scoring herself a lovely point. The slippy weather conditions were a task for both teams but they pulled through and they kept scoring. Marie O’ Keeffe ( 4th Class ) managed a brilliant goal from halfway up the field. Doireann Mc Curdy tapped in a lovely goal in reply for Peig’s team at the other end.
At this stage both teams were fighting hard but Peig’s team were a good few goals up. Eventually the final whistle was blown and Peig’s team had won the Mini League Final. The final score: 14-01 to 6-00.
But remember it’s not always about the winning but the participating!

The ball was thrown in by Ms. O’ Keeffe to start the game, the ball was being hit back and forth which resulted in a goal for both teams.
Another goal went in for both sides. By half time the teams were fairly even but Emma’s team started to pull ahead in the second half. Mini League Semi Final
Peig vs Rebecca
The ball was thrown in and the game was soon in full swing. With Rebecca’s team winning the first ball, Peig’s team was already under pressure. Julie Lennon was brilliant in defence.
Suddenly one of Peig’s midfielders, Ella Middleton won the ball and scored a point and there was soon another score on the board. Both sides scoring! After a tough battle between both teams it was half time and Peig’s team were two goals up.
Once the second half had started Rebecca had got a goal and so had two more of her players, Abbey and Alicia. But Peig’s team were still going with Peig, Ella and Julie all getting their names on the score sheet. They had the lead.
After another terrific half, the final whistle blew and Peig’s team had won 6-02 to 2-02. It was a tough match for both teams but one that was enjoyed.

Our Shield Final Victory!
The day of our ‘Shield Final’ had come, there was great support for us and everyone seemed to have turned up. We were all nervous starting the match.
Suddenly the ball was thrown in and the game was in play. Urlingford had beaten us before but we weren’t letting that happen again. The ball was being hit back and forth between the backs and the forwards. Everyone worked together and eventually the first goal was walloped into the back of the net by Sarah O’Donnell. Sarah flew back and scored a lovely point.
Urlingford weren’t ready to be beaten just like that! Rebecca Lennon blocked what would have been a great goal and ended it as a point. The first half was over. After our team talk we were ready to start again!
The second half was in play and we all did our best resulting in another goal for Sarah O’Donnell. Urlingford quickly answered back going for goals, but with our entire back line working their hardest, it wasn’t going to be easy. Urlingford settled with a point but a lovely ball was suddenly sent down to Ella Middleton in the forwards and she finished with a fantastic goal. The crowd were cheering and screaming, but it wasn’t over yet. Urlingford fought back, but this was our game.
The final whistle was blown and we had won our Shield Final!
Final score:
Gowran 3-02
Urlingford: 0-2
Thank you to everyone who supported us in our final and throughout all our matches.

School's mini-league 2013
The girls showcased their talent on the camogie field on Thursday when the two final teams played on the school pitch. It was a bright sunny day and the match lived up to expectations, providing great excitement and was enjoyed by the students, teachers and parents who attended. Ashleigh Booth's team won over Hannah Brennan's team in a tight match by only a goal in the end. Thanks to all the support and help provided and a huge thanks to their trainers Bernie Fitzgerald, Bee Naddy and Lizzie Byrne.
