Voila played by the water near her humble home close to Lake Texcoco in Mexico. Her friend, a stray dog she affectionately called “Mutt” barked as he searched for food nearby. He loved bringing her “gifts”, but she wasn’t impressed with dead rats, or something equally revolting. His barking persisted so she went for a look and was stunned to see gold. Not the kind of gold you’ve expect to find like a ring or a coin, but a dirty big rock of gold. Was it so old that it was from Aztec times, like she’d been learning about in school? Was this the ancient Aztec gold lost on the “Night of the Sorrow”?

Danny, the maturity to your writing is so engaging. What I enjoyed most about your story this week was how you weren't in a rush to develop the plot, such was your confidence in your writing! You set the scene and the atmosphere. I even felt the bond between Viola and Mutt! The progress of the story was seamless, I think it was from your choice of sentence structure! Concluding the 100WC with Viola's reflection on her find (a style I have seen in your previous stories!) is a great way to leave the reader pondering and not necessarily feeling that the story was incomplete. I feel I am running out of adjectives to describe your writing, Danny! It is an accomplished piece of writing that prompted me to research the 'Noche Triste' to satisfy my own curiosity!
