There was a chicken called Larry who lived a normal life eating burgers. Then one day he met a Magic Toda who gave Larry a kick down a hole. It was Magic Yoda’s hobbit hole.
The Magic Yoda said to Larry that he has magic powers more powerful than the heat of the sun. “What are you on about you crazy old magic goblin man?” asked Larry. “IT DOESN'T MATTER WHAT YOU THINK DOES IT?” shouted Magic Yoda.
Larry tried to escape but he fell over Yoda’s sign and magic flower. Magic Yoda exploded into tiny pieces.

It was gorgeous day, the sun was beating down, the bulbs were ready to flower.
I heard people talking so I looked over the gate to see tens of people, kick, kick, kick went the ball while there were others crouching beside the hole in the green. There was no social distancing at all. At that moment I shouted "shouldn't you be inside? there are people sick and dying because of covid-19 and you are outside playing like it's your daily lives!" in an instant one of the kids shouted back "it doesn't matter what you think, does it?"

“It doesn’t matter what you think, does it?” defiantly replied the boy to his Teacher as he continued to eat lunch. “I’m as hungry as a horse, so I’ll eat. Got a problem with that?”
The teacher lost it, she picked up a book and threw it at the brazen boy. He smugly dodged it but as the other boys jumped to his defence things spiralled out of control. It was mayhem as the Principal arrived.
“What have you got to say for yourself?” the Teacher shouted.  “What… mmm….” I stuttered. “Daydreaming again! Can you please get on with your work!”

I was walking down the road, basking in the heat from the sun when I saw a young man bending down beside a beautiful flower.
I was curious to know what he was doing so I moved closer. I saw there was a big hole dug in the ground beside the flower.
There was a big bag of rubbish in the hole. I looked up and saw a sign that said ‘No Dumping’.
I said, “You shouldn’t be doing that!” and he said “It doesn’t matter what you think, does it?” Then he gave the flower a kick and ran.

The sun was shining. John was playing soccer. The ball came to John and when he went to kick it, he missed the ball.

He landed on a big flower plant but underneath the flowers there was a gigantic hole. When he fell, he could feel himself going red. His friends made it even worse by laughing at him. One of his friends spoke and said “John can’t even kick a soccer ball!”

John stomped over to his friends. This was a sign he was going to get angry. “ It doesn’t matter what you think, does it?” he exploded!

I was sitting on a bench in the sun when a man came down the road.

As he passed, he fired a kick at me. Instinctively I jumped out of the way but I'd fallen down a hole. I immediately thought of something and I said "that belt makes you look fat" but the stranger just said "well it doesn't matter what you think, does it" as he threw a big red sign with a flower on it at me. I threw dirt at him as he ran away. I pushed the sign off myself and ran after him.

This Sunday Sam was VERY lucky. He was preparing to run for the local election. Sam was going around the town to put up a sign. He found the perfect spot: flowers were surrounding it and the sun was beaming down on it. Everyone who passed by was bound to see it. He placed the sign down gently on the lush grass. As soon as he was walking away, he saw a man walking to it which Sam thought was good. But he kicked it and put it down a hole. Sam thought to himself “It doesn’t matter what you think, does it?” Soon after, Sam found the best spot to lay down the sign.

100 Word Challenge: Welcome

Welcome!
See the previous post (just scroll down) if you are interested in writing a story! Anyone can do it... even if your teacher didn't put it on your distance learning work.
For this post, I want to focus on how to write a positive comment!
I had been working on writing skills (see blue boxes) with fourth class but I know other classes had done the same! These skills have the fancy name 'figurative language' (see purple box). These are explained in the image below:
Picture
So my suggestion for how to add a positive comment on a story is to find an example of one of these skills and tell the writer how it made their story interesting!
If someone had 'Bully Bob threw Silly Sam a dirty look.' then you can comment by saying 'I enjoyed the names you used for your characters... good use of alliteration!
If someone had 'Joe ran to the river as fast a lightning.' then you can comment by saying 'Your sentence using a simile helped me to picture the story.'
Pick one sentence or part of the story and say why you liked it!

100 Word Challenge: How to do it!

This year's pupils of Gowran National School are taking on the 100 Word Challenge. This is a challenge set up by a teacher in the UK and has inspired many children across the globe to write!

As the name of the challenge suggests, pupils are provided with a prompt on which to focus their writing, with an approximate limited of one hundred words. (Only the teacher (me!) moderates this so it is not a strict rule that is enforced!). Sometimes, editing your work to delete the less important information is a great way to improve the overall standard of writing.

This week, they have given us a choice between two prompts (see below).
Prompt one: You must include this sentence somewhere in your story. Prompt two: Include these words within your story.
Prompt One
…’ It doesn’t matter what you think, does it?’…
Prompt Two
Sign    Kick    Hole    Flower    Sun

It is not very strict so don't worry too much if this is your first time to do it! If you wish to submit a story, email MsTighe17@gmail.com. The stories will not be edited but will be read before they are posted. For the stories to be posted on the 100 Word Challenge website (see link below), the deadline is Friday at 8pm. No deadline for a story to be added to the school blog. If this is too difficult, just go back and do last weeks. A new prompt comes each Sunday evening.

We would also encourage you to read the 100 word stories and submit a positive comment to provide feedback! You can comment by clicking under a story in this blog.
All comments will be approved by the administrator of this blog before being published.

If you wish to see the work of our pupils on the 100 Word Challenge website (and that of other pupils internationally!), click the following link: https://100wc.net/  (Make sure you scroll down a little to see the latest prompt and click on 'Read More' to see the links).

Last night, I went for a run on the beach when I noticed a lost diamond. I grabbed it and turned around to see if anyone was looking. I dashed home at 30mph and stumbled upstairs into my room. I cleaned the dusty diamond till it sparkled and hid it behind a book.
Today, when I returned to the beach I saw a man sprint- ing everywhere looking upset. He came up to me and exclaimed “have you seen a diamond?”. It’s the last of the Inca Tribe. I thought “Was this really the only Inca diamond left in the world!!!”...
