I found myself lost in deep in the rainforest of the Amazon. I was really upset because I didn’t know where my friends were, it was suppose to be an adventure but had become my worst nightmare.

As I was scavenging through the bushes I became upon an old dusty book. I flicked through the pages. To my amazement, a scroll fell out of the back of the book. On examination, it turned out to be a map. Sprinting towards the x on the map, I uncovered a precious diamond! Not only that, in front of me was a gate!

I jumped the gate and ran to safety where I found my friends!

This year's pupils of Gowran National School are taking on the 100 Word Challenge. This is a challenge set up by a teacher in the UK and has inspired many children across the globe to write!

As the name of the challenge suggests, pupils are provided with a prompt on which to focus their writing, with an approximate limited of one hundred words. (Only the teacher (me!) moderates this so it is not a strict rule that is enforced!). Sometimes, editing your work to delete the less important information is a great way to improve the overall standard of writing.

This week, they have given us a choice between two prompts (see below). Prompt one: You must include this sentence somewhere in your story. Prompt two: Include these words within your story.
Prompt one:
… was this really the only…
Prompt two:
Diamond    Book   Upset    Lost   Sprinting

It is not very strict so don't worry too much if this is your first time to do it! If you wish to submit a story, email MsTighe17@gmail.com. The stories will not be edited but will be read before they are posted. For the stories to be posted on the 100 Word Challenge website (see link below), the deadline is Friday at 8pm. No deadline for a story to be added to the school blog. If this is too difficult, just go back and do last weeks. A new prompt comes each Sunday evening.

We would also encourage you to read the 100 word stories and submit a positive comment to provide feedback! You can comment by clicking under a story in this blog.
All comments will be approved by the administrator of this blog before being published.

A man was taking a stroll in a local park when he hit his head.

He woke up with a BANG and he saw some plastic men in armour. He sprinted away to find somewhere safe, when the Sydney Opera House crepttowards him. He ran! He hide in the closest building. He found some keys, darted up the key’s room number and opened the door. When he got in, he locked the door behind him. He went into the bedroom and out on to the balcony. Someone pushed him over the top. POP.!

He was dreaming another scary nightmare.

Dear diary...
Today I saw the strangest thing – the Sydney Opera House was floating up in the air! Then an army of multicoloured aliens jumped out of it and started attacking. The aliens looked like ancient Chinese chess pieces. Everyone was in complete shock.
My friend and I are the only two who seem to have survived. We don’t know what they want, we don’t know why they are here, but what we do know is they are not our friends!
If you are reading this we are hiding just south of the Bridge, in the deserted ferry terminal.

PLEASE HELP US!

A man in his early 90’s has sadly passed away today after diving into the water near Sydney’s iconic Opera House.

The man, who was sightseeing, with his partner, near the Harbour Bridge, was spooked when he saw what he believed to be life size multicoloured jelly babies lined up and ready to attack.  The victim’s partner later claimed to also have seen the “ninja jelly babies”.  He has been taken to hospital for assessment.  There is no evidence of these crazy colossal candies and no other witnesses have come forward to date.

If you have any information please reply.

On March 1974, a group of peasants were digging in northwest China. They found clay figures which turned out to be one of the greatest discoveries of all time. Near the unexcavated tomb of  Qi Shi Huang di Who declared himself the first emperor of China in 221 B.C lays an amazing underground treasure. An entire army of 8,000 life size terracotta soldiers and horses! That is supposed to be over the age of 2,200 years old! The purpose of them being built was to protect the emperor in his afterlife. The terracotta soldiers and horses were made with pottery!

This week's prompt is difficult!
It is to write anything you like that comes from your imagination after seeing/studying the following picture:
Picture
So within your 100WC, you need to reference something from this picture (e.g. warriors/soliders). They can be attacking or protecting. You don't have to know anything about the truth of the photo. Just let your imagination flow! It can be as random as who came to your birthday party or a dream you had about starting in a new school where all the teachers were like robot warriors. My main advice is to write about what you know. So if you love video games, could you be in a virtual world where you must survive their attack? What powers do they have? How can you protect yourself?
If anyone would like to research the exact historical connection of this cultural artwork, google 'Terracotta Warriors'.. it's a very interesting part of Chinese history!

We all know about the virus called Covid 19 and it is concerning many people around the globe. I know majority of people are scared but they are simple things you can do. Staying healthy is very important while we are off school: You can do exercise, I
jumped on the trampoline yesterday and you can eat fruits such as a banana. I do not like black bananas by the way. This virus will damage economies but there is no point stockpiling there still are lorry drivers hauling heavy loads of foods. I really hope that everyone is keeping safe.

Today was the day of the School Cup Final and we were playing against a Dublin school. I had slept like a log. I scrambled out of bed as fast as I could. I got into my black Gaelic clothes, sprinted down the stairs and gobbled a banana.
Our coach told us where we were playing. The ref threw the ball in and our captain jumped up, caught it and scored a goal. At half-time we were winning. I kicked the ball at someone’s glasses and they got damaged.

In the end we won and lifted the heavy cup. Victory!

On my holidays I went to Gran Canaria, there we stayed at a hotel called Gloria palace. The flight there was four hours and very boring. When we got there it was 10.30pm so we were very tired and we went to sleep.

The next day we got up and looked around the hotel and found our way around. After we got breakfast and I had a banana but it was a bit black so I did not eat it all. After that we went to the pool, the pools were very big, we had a swim and lots of water activities I jumped into the pool and damaged my googles.

After we went and had our dinner, I wore a sweatshirt but had to take it off as it was too heavy.
