The sun was shining. John was playing soccer. The ball came to John and when he went to kick it, he missed the ball.

He landed on a big flower plant but underneath the flowers there was a gigantic hole. When he fell, he could feel himself going red. His friends made it even worse by laughing at him. One of his friends spoke and said “John can’t even kick a soccer ball!”

John stomped over to his friends. This was a sign he was going to get angry. “ It doesn’t matter what you think, does it?” he exploded!

A great first story Eimear! You dealt with the difficult emotion of embarrassment. A simple, common thing to happen, to kick and ball and miss it entirely! Your narrative also explores a stereotype of boys, that they tease quicker than sympathise. I think girls are kinder to their friends! We do try and mask embarrassment with anger and John tries to do this. Your story creates clear images in the mind of the reader and engages their interest. Great writing... you have nailed the 100 Word Challenge!! Well done Eimear!

Greetings from Australia Eimear B! Congratulations on completing this week’s challenge. It is not easy to include random words into a coherent text. Thank you for your accurate punctuation. That makes your writing easy to read. I enjoyed reading your response this week.
