One autumn afternoon as I was strolling through the park, a loose leaf fluttered past my nose.
I looked up and saw that the sky was a beautiful mix of red and orange all the way to a deep blue. Suddenly I spotted something out of the corner of my eye, a racoon. I recoiled in horror as I saw it tip a box down towards me.
I took a step backwards at the shock of it all and then I stumbled backwards over an old chair.
As I tried to get to my feet he launched himself at me.

Wow, Lucy! It's a story of two halves.. the first half is almost poetic, I loved the visual images of the setting! The second half is so dramatic! The vocabulary and phrases are superb, allowing the reader to feel like an eye-witness! And the ending... 'he launched himself at me'.... it has intrigued (and slightly disturbed me!). What was the raccoon's intention? It seems like the raccoon had more than enough time to make an escape and yet he chooses to attack! It seems almost human like to 'launch'. My own imagination took over as to the possibilities of outcomes of the altercation! This is what good writers do... get the readers thinking! Well done, Lucy! A terrific 100WC!

Hi Lucy
I'm so glad I came across your 100 word challenge as it had me gripped from the minute I started to read it! Your opening line intrigued me as that 'loose leaf fluttered past" your nose. And then you had that beautiful description of the colours in the sky which lulled me into a bit of a false sense of security. Then wham! All of a sudden there was a racoon in the picture and he didn't seem to be that nice. Your use of "I recoiled in horror" really painted the picture of the fear and urgency you felt along with stumbling backwards and falling over the chair. I was bit shocked that he launched himself at you and now I'm left wondering what happened next. You really have been creative and imaginative in how you used the words for this week's prompt and you've certainly left this reader wishing I could read more. That's the sign of an excellent writer. Well Done and keep up the great work.
