One night I was getting ready for bed when I heard a noise coming from the garden. A group of kids, I decided, but I needed to know.
I snuck out the door and around to the back of the house. I saw a couple of kids throwing rubbish on the lawn and I felt a surge of anger at the fact that they were littering on the lawn, as I most likely would have to pick up the rubbish.
Suddenly, out of nowhere, a shadow pounced on the kids and the deafening screams echoed through the cold night...

You nailed the horror story genre here, Lucy! You lulled me into a false sense of predictability with your story... an older neighbour getting annoyed at children being thoughtless. A good idea and well executed... and then the final line grabs the reader's attention and is merciless in its delivery!! I have read the clincher of this story repeatedly and it never grows old... it is dramatic and gusty! I thoroughly enjoyed your story! Well done, Lucy!

Well done Lucy C.
I too felt a surge of anger when I discovered people throwing litter in the garden, I really loved that turn of phrase in your100WC.
Well done Lucy on bringing us through a few different emotion in your piece, false sense of security at first- the sound is just children messing outside, then anger - the throwing of the litter, scared - when the shadow and finally worry and confusion- at the disappearance had happened to the litterbugs.
Keep up the great writing Lucy.
